When I hear 10 months old I look around to see whose baby is that old, can't be our son...time is flying by!
He is doing great! Especially his transitioning into toddlerhood with his tantrums...least we know he's on target or slightly ahead ;o)

Tick bite, GRRR
I found a tick behind Joel's ear this morning around 11 am. It was defiantly a deer tick and definitely attached. I pulled it off and put alcohol behind his ear.
I am so mad, I hate ticks!
I marked it on the calendar and we'll watch him for any symptoms, GRRR!
I am pretty sure he got it on him some time yesterday afternoon as we were at the lake raking leaves. He got a bath Saturday night so I don't think it was there then. I hope and pray he is fine!

Oh wear, Oh wear???
Okay, I'm looking for my easy going, napping happily baby boy...anyone?
Our easy going little man has been replaced with a tantruming, grumpy Gus who just doesn't want to nap...come back, come back sweet baby, Joel...

Thoughts
I just read on one of the web boards I follow of a couple who just adopted their baby boy and she mentioned how emotionally draining it was.
My reply: It's a journey of a million emotions that one can't begin to describe or put into words.
I am so happy when I read these stories of adoption miracles.
I've been really watching Joel lately as he plays and interacts with other's and been thinking of how he doesn't know he wasn't born into all this, all this love and fun. How lucky he is to be given such a good life and how lucky we are to be his parents.

Standing
On his own, WOW!
We has stood once or twice during the past few weeks for a few seconds without holding on. Today at a friend's pumpkin party, he let go of the little chair he was holding on to and stood by himself for at least 10 seconds and he did this over and over about 4 times...so exciting!

Oh, what fun it is to flush the toilet, LOL
Joel was hanging out in the bathroom this morning with Dada while he put his contacts in and he thought it was fun to use the lid of the toilet to play drums, but even more fun is to flush the toilet over and over again.........LOL!

Bye~Bye bottles (bittersweet)
For the past week JB hasn't had a bottle (okay, I did sneak in a couple here and there just because I can't believe he is off them).
We introduced him to a sippy cup at 4 months old when we started giving him cereal/solids. We'd put in a bit of water and have him experiment with the cup. We have a few different brands and he'd sip out of all of them, but not take much of an amount. We'd give him water, watered down juice or his formula and again just sips.
He drinks from open cups at playgroup and sometimes at home, he likes to do this, especially blow bubbles into the cup.
So, I bought him these cups called trainer bottles from Green Sprouts (resembles a bottle a little more then I'd like, but for him who used Playtex bottles, it is quite different). He took right to them and drinks all his formula out of them. He'll cuddle up with us just like he did with his bottles and he loves the handles on these cups so he can get a good grip on them. Like I said earlier I'd give him a bottle here and there and he could care less about it...which I know is great and makes for a good time to just switch over without a fuss.
We'll be doing just that. I just can't believe our baby is going to be off bottles. I had planned on slowly weaning him to this cup and have him off his bottles at 1 year, but he took right to it without looking back. We'll keep giving him his formula in the trainer bottles and I have introduced him to some whole milk in his sippy, about 1 oz at a time with a meal.
So...Bye~Bye bottles, OMG!

Support the Adoption Tax Credit
The federal adoption tax credit has helped thousands of families say "Yes!" to adopting a child. It's vital that this financial support stay in place to help families offset the costs and fees associated with adopting a child. Unfortunately, the tax credit is set to expire in December 2010 unless Congress votes to continue it. It's time to take action!
The Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act of 2009, H.R. 213 , will keep the adoption tax credit from being repealed, and may make the tax relief measure permanent. It only takes a few minutes to email or call your senators and congressmen it's important for them to hear from families impacted by the tax credit.
Currently, there are 76 State Senators and Representatives cosponsoring H.R. 213. However, there are 16 states that currently have no sponsors of this bill, including eight on the East Coast* (one of the largest areas of the US with internationally adopted children). H.R. 213 is currently in committee, where most bills die. It imperative that adoptive families, and all friends of children waiting for families, act now.
It only takes a few minutes to write, call, or email your representatives. Please do so today!
Email Representative: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml
Email Senator: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
Currently, the following states have no cosponsors or commitments of support for H.R. 213:
West Virginia
Delaware
Connecticut
Rhode Island
New Hampshire
Vermont
Massachusetts
Maine
Idaho
Oregon
Nevada
Montana
South Dakota
New Mexico
Arkansas
Hawaii
The two states offering the greatest support are Texas & Georgia with 6 cosponsors each, closely followed by Pennsylvania with 5. Honorable mentions: Florida , Indiana , Illinois each with 4 sponsorships each.
Pass this on to friends and family, and ask for their help in writing, calling, and posting on blogs and facebook. To gain momentum, we must have an absolute ground swell of families lifting their voices together for the well-being of children throughout the world.

Cold improving, etc...
Joel's cold is getting better. He's had it for 1 week now and his nose is still a bit stuffed and runny, but today he is in a better mood. I got the same cold the day after he did. I was exhausted yesterday and rested as much as I could, today I feel much better.
He is getting so big...mr. 9 mos old, LOL! He pulls up on everything, steps all around his little activity table, pushes his push walker all around and babbling away. He now says, Mama, Dada, Niny (for A. Cindy we believe), Hi and Baba and lots of ga's, ah's, etc...
He is a little bruiser, banging his head on everything as he can't get places fast enough. He is flying around the house on his hands and knees.
He has been so drooly lately he has to have a bib on or his shirt is soaked. I think it has to do with him breathing out of his mouth more with his cold, but it may have something to do with him teething too. I gave up on looking for his top teeth...they'll show when their good and ready, LOL!
Oh ya, before we went to playgroup this morning we swung by the post office and mailed out our retainer/paperwork to our attorney here in MA who we will use to finalize Joel's adoption.
When I spoke with the attorney on the phone she told me that the court will do CORI checks on us (again) and it could be 6 weeks from start of process to finish...best case. So we await getting a court date now!!!

Joel's 2nd cold
Poor Baby! We were at playgroup this morning and he was sneezing away with a runny nose. Guess he woke with it this morning :o( We'll put his baby chest rub on him tonight and run his vaporizer...hope it's a short one.
