I sent J (via cell phone) a bunch of pics from Joel's first Christmas and 1st Birthday. She responded with this, Thank you so much for taking good care of Joel & loving him so much. I knew he was meant to be with you. I'm grateful to have you and Josh raise my son.
I thanked her for this, we really appreciate knowing how she feels. It is such a special relationship that we have with her.

Birthday party and finally...his 3rd tooth
Joel's party this past Sunday was great! He napped in the am from 10-12 and stayed up till 7pm. He seemed to really enjoy all his guests, the cake, presents, etc... He is such a good boy!!
His 3rd tooth (top R) is finally all the way through.
He has been busy checking out his new toys. Mommy finally got all his Christmas and Birthday gifts organized and set up, ex: his kitchen is in our kitchen and the basket is full of play food, basketball hoop is in his room and I went through the toy box and pulled out some more of his older toys to make room for the new.
He is one lucky little boy!

Happy Birthday to our sweet Joel!
How you are 1 already is beyond me!!!
We made your cake and cupcakes today (for your party tom.) we also set up the kitchen, did the decorating already and bought you 2 mylar balloons. Your party is at noon tomorrow and there will be about 23 people here. We are looking forward to seeing you with everyone, eating your chocolate construction cake and opening your presents. How exciting!
We are having 2 big veggie lasagnas, a baked ham and crackers and cheese. I also made dump truck and tractor candies with yellow chocolate for the bodies of the vehicles and milk chocolate for the tires. I will take pics and post them here.
Josh and I enjoyed decorating his cake and it came out really cute!
The 3 of us went out to Applebees tonight. Joel loved gnawing on a lime while standing in the booth with me after we were all trough with dinner. He was saying hi to the people around us and trying to talk to the little baby near us that was fussing...he's so cute!
In a year...
We found out you were born while sitting in a very busy and loud Panera. We had just left from visiting my Grammy in the rehab (the last time Josh and I ever saw her) and I decided to check my phone and found out you were here already.
We first met you on the 28th around 12:30pm (NV time)...it was love at first sight!
You were such a good little newborn, you were strong and your heart heeled so quickly, you ate well, you slept well and you grew and grew.
We got home and you continued to grow, you learned to smile and laugh, roll over and sit by yourself (4 mos), crawl (7 mos), pull to stand (7 mos), cruise, stand alone and take steps and all the while growing bigger and bigger.
You are now on all sippy cups (since 9 mos) and whole milk. You like water, love fruit and basically just like to eat, LOL!
Your smile and laughter light up our world. We can't imagine you not with us, we know God had you planned for us.
You have been a wonderful baby and we look forward to seeing you grow to be an amazing little boy.
Have lots of fun at your 1st birthday party little man...we all love you so much! xoxoxo

Merry Christmas...Joel's 1st Christmas!
What a fun filled day today was!
First off we celebrated Christmas Eve at C & F's house. This morning we woke up around 6:30am to open our presents from "Santa"...ok, Josh and I awoke first...we were even excited, LOL, then we got Joel up.
Santa brought Joel lots of goodies, a stocking full of things like, mini see and say, toothbrush, teething tabs, bath color tabs, stainless kleen kanteen, fisher price little people, matchbox boo boo pack, fisher price double pack cd, book, and a few other little things.
For big presents he got a basketball hoop, a step 2 lifestyle custom kitchen and a radio flyer walker wagon(got an awesome deal on this)...and is showing to be one of his favorites. He also got a lawnmower, vtech paino toy, leapfrog vehicle magnet set, leapfrog my pal scout, playskool busy gears, some books, handy manny dvd, gymboree rain boots, carhartt jacket(for next fall), some pj's, a curious george jack in the box, a stuffed monkey...I think that may be it :o) He was so happy with all his presents, not overwhelmed or anything, just happy and patiently ok not overly patiently, LOL waited for us to take some of the toys out of the box for him. After all was opened, Josh got an MP3 from me, a work vest and a book of Joel from 2 months to 11 months. I got some bath and body works stuff and a star pendant necklace with Joel's birthstones in it.
Then we gave Joel a bowl of Kix and some milk to drink, got him dressed, we got dressed and we headed to the lake to swap presents there. Joel got a fisher price bounce and spin zebra, a couple shirts from Old Navy and a chicco castle with balls from Aunt C and Uncle F. G & G gave him some disney dvds, a stocking full of mustela bath products, a golden retriever cuddle blanket, some goldfish crackers, forks and books in his stocking, chuck the talking dump truck, a john deere bank, socks and a crib activity toy. He is one lucky little guy. Oh ya, on Christmas Eve Linda gave him 2 books, Liz's family gave him 2 books and "Uncle" Jeff gave him a fisher price little people ambulance.
All this and his 1st birthday is on Sunday...wow!
Oh one more thing, G & G gave him a Cloud B twilight turtle that we put on for him tonight and he seems to enjoy the stars on the ceiling.
Thank you Lord for a wonderful Christmas! It was such a wonderful feeling setting up Joel's presents last night with Josh, we were both so happy and excited and when we put Joel down to crawl out of his room this am he stopped in his tracks as soon as he saw the wagon...the wonder and happiness in his eyes put joy in our hearts.
He is by far the best Christmas gift EVER!!

Mr milk drinker
Joel's officially off formula. Last week I gradually added more milk to his formula from 1/4 milk to 1/2 to all milk since Monday. He loves it! Right now he drinks about 4 oz of milk at breakfast from a sippy cup, water from a straw cup around 10 am, an open cup of water or watered down juice at lunch, a sippy (6-8 oz) of milk around 4 pm and an open cup of water or watered down juice for dinner and another 8 oz of milk from his sippy before bed. He's doing great! A little more daring as far as taking steps too. He can do it, he just needs to gain the confidence that he can do it :o)

Our sweet Rusty
Is sick! He has been drinking more and peeing more (a few accidents in the house which he has never had before) so I took him to the vet yesterday. They took blood and did a urinalysis. The vet called today to inform us that Rusty is in kidney failure. We are shocked and devastated! She says he has 6 weeks to 6 months to live, OMG! If we are lucky maybe a year, but who knows.
We immediately needed to switch his food to a kidney diet, no more treats unless they are the special food, make sure he's drinking lots of water and we need to start giving him sub q fluids at home.
Again, we are so very sad. Rus is my baby and I love him so much! Joel and he are best pals too and I really thought that they'd grow up together. Joel lights up when he sees Rus, says Wusty and makes a bee line for him and puts his head down on his fur and says awww! When he can't find Rusty he calls Wusty Wusty! My heart just breaks :o( I don't know what I will do without my little shadow who follows me EVERY WHERE...
On another note. Josh went in for his upper and lower GI today and they took lots of biopsies of polyps and inflamed tissue in his small intestine and stomach. He has a large polyp in his colon that will require surgery to remove in the near future. We will find out the results in a week or so. I am scared!
Please pray with us for Josh's results to be negative and for our sweet Rusty boy!
Tomorrow is Joel's finalization and despite all that is going on I vow to be happy! It is a very important and special day that has been a long time coming.

Saying so much
Joel has been saying a lot lately. He always has been a great babbler and lately he babbles what seems like a whole conversation. He throws words clear as day in there too, like yest. at the lake he woke from his nap and saw Auntie C standing there and he says Cindy! He looks for Rusty saying Wusty, flushes the toilet and says toyet....it's so cute!

Finally getting another tooth
So Joel got his first bottom tooth in early July, then the second bottom tooth just days later. No teeth since then. Well yesterday I saw that his right top tooth is finally poking through and maybe the one to the right of that. I've been trying to get a better peak to see if there's anything going on with the top left one, but just can't see well enough. Time will tell. I have to admit I love his barely any teeth grin, but I'm looking forward to seeing him with more teeth too.
InfantSee
Joel went to his eye DR appointment today, part of the InfantSee program where certain Dr's do exams on infants under 1 year for free to check their eyes. Joel was perfect! Very cooperative, didn't mind having his eyes dilated and she said everything looked great! Yeah Joel!!

End of November stats
I have a first year calendar for Joel. It hangs in his room and I write daily events on it as well as how he eats, sleeps, plays and grows each month. At the end of November Josh and I weighed and measured our little man.
Weight: 22 lbs 4 oz (50%)
Length: 30 inches (50-75%)
HC: 17.75 (10-25%)
These stats fall basically where he's been. I also got his feet measured yesterday while we were walking in the mall, we stopped at Stride Rite...they are a size 4 now. He is wearing size 18 month sleepers and size 12-18 month clothing. He has an eye DR appointment this Saturday. It's a free program for children under 1 year of age called Infant See. Just to check their eyes to be sure they are problem free and off to a good start in life ;O)
On the 12th we'll be getting his Christmas and 1 year pictures taken at Sears.
His new thing is saying wusty for Rusty and ammy for Sammy...so adorable! Doing Patty Cake and signing more all the time, LOL!
